What is the Renewable Heat Act (EWärmeG)?

The Renewable Heat Act is a state law for Baden-Württemberg that affects owners of existing residential buildings who replace their heating system from 1 January 2010. The law stipulates that when heating systems in residential buildings are replaced, 15 per cent of the heat generated must come from renewable energies. This is intended to help promote the use of renewable energies in heat generation and reduce CO2 emissions.

What possibilities does it offer?

The Renewable Energy Heat Act offers various ways to fulfil this requirement, including the use of solar systems, pellet or wood heating, bio-oil or biogas, heat pumps or appropriate thermal insulation. The exact requirements and options depend on various factors such as the living space and the chosen energy source.

If you have already installed and use a system for the utilisation of renewable heat energy before the EWärmeG came into force in 2008, you are exempt from the legal requirements, regardless of whether you cover 15 percent of the heat energy requirement.

As your partner, we are at your side to ensure that you fulfil the requirements of the EWärmeG and find the best possible solution for your heating system. We offer a wide range of options and consultancy services to ensure that you can easily fulfil the legal requirements.

Please note that there may be exceptions where you are not obliged to use renewable energy. This may be due to technical, structural or public law reasons. In such cases, we will contact the lower building authority on your behalf to check for a possible exemption from the legal obligations.

If you have already installed a system for the use of renewable heat energy before the EWärmeG came into force in 2008 and use it, you are exempt from the legal requirements, regardless of whether you cover 15 per cent of the heat energy requirement.
